I didn’t know this view was here on the side of Liberty Memorial. It’s a great view. And I loved the way the walking path curved around the trees framing the Kansas City skyline. A jogger jogged past while I was painting and I included her in the painting.

The walk through Heisler Park along the coast in Laguna Beach is incredible – so scenic. At first, I didn’t see it, but then I realized that was the island of Catalina in the distance. It was a joy to paint here for a few mornings – the locals were nice and stopped to visit. And very close to where I was painting was the Laguna Art Museum. I loved the juxtaposition of this Pink library amidst the greenery and flowers next to the ocean and how the walkway curved to the entry – creating a must-paint composition. The Haynes Library was built in 1897 and with all its windows providing light and fresh air, it is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. This is my Dad’s favorite view – he had photographed the Maroon Bells many times. When my cousin Kay knew I was going to paint there, she called dibs on the finished painting. It was a good thing she did, because two couples asked to buy it while I was painting it. I had to tell them it was promised to Cousin Kay. I love how the moon rose over the mountains while I was painting.

It was lovely to paint in one of Savannah's 22 square parks with their resplendent trees heavy with spanish moss. The Mercer house has a fascinating history. It was featured in a book titled "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" that inspired a movie of the same name. Beausoleil is the French town just above Monaco. And this was the view from the window of the apartment that my friend, Lee, let me use while I visited Monaco. I loved the way the buildings were set into the steep hillside and the stairs that connected them. I painted this view twice during my stay, the other painting is entitled "Lee's Beausoleil View".

This is a nice view of the Crossroads after leaving out all the street poles and wires. The streets are filled with people during the Crossroad’s monthly Art Walks. I was present when they unveiled the Rocket on top of the remodeled TWA building.

I stayed on the left bank a couple of blocks from this location. This boulevard Rue Saint-Andre is well-known for its many shops and restaurants. And there is a great creperie just up the street. Riomaggiore is a little fishing village built into a rugged coast line at the southern end of the Italian Riviera. It's one of the five villages connected by walking trail that make up the area called Cinque Terre. And I love the colorful boast and buildings set against the rolling sea.

I had a whole entire week in Venice. I bought a boat pass for the week and was on the beautiful amazing Grand Canal all week, visiting the museums and the sites. I was drawn to this scene to paint… love the colors and composition. I was able to work on it for three mornings along the canal. I started very early when no one was around and watched the day unfold around me.

This painting was inspired by my trip to Burano, Italy. I had never before seen buildings the actual colors I like to use in my paintings - very, very colorful. This island is known for making lace and is a short ferry ride from Venice. And this painting inspired my sister Jane to travel there herself.

Don't you just love the "energy" of New York. I painted this from a photo I took when visiting New York in 2000. Could you imagine trying to set up an easel in the middle of Time Square? As you can see from one of the signs in the painting "no standing anytime", they don't even want you to stand still in New York.

I enjoy painting outside in the Plaza. I chose this view because of the architecture of this building, the huge blue spruce, and the campanile tower in the background. I thought I had chosen an out-of-the-way spot to set up, but many people crossed the street to see what I was doing and to say hello. Kansas City's filled with friendly people.

The levee at the south end of the downtown airport had huge "no trespassing" signs - and that was where I wanted set up my easel for this painting for this view of the Kansas City Skyline. After an extensive search, I found the person in charge and got permission to trespass. I painted there several days and enjoyed the planes flying overhead.

Last December on my Florida Road Trip, I stopped in Destin, Florida. I wanted to paint a sunset and was thinking of VanGogh and his strong brush strokes, seeing if I could capture some of the energy I admire in his paintings.

I've been to the Luxembourg Gardens many times and the spectacular flowers always amaze me. It's an absolutely beautiful place in which to paint. My friend, Therese and I have spent many wonderful hours painting in the garden which is very near her home.

Another view of this amazing fountain. It was originally built for a long island estate in 1910 by Henri Greber. Later, it was brought to Kansas City in 1951 and renovated for its place in Millcreek Park on the Plaza.

I love painting on balconies and when they are a large covered terrace supplied with lounge chairs even better. This is an amazing view of Cahuita National Park, once you've walked through the entrance building you are on the beautiful coastal trail with monkeys overhead and lots of wildlife. I wanted to paint a view of the new Kansas City Skyline with the performing arts center. And the view I wanted could not be seen from the ground. I wanted the relation and the proportion of the new building to be just so. So, a painter friend, Greg and I, went knocking on doors asking permission to paint on their roof. Faultless Linen at 19th & Broadway had the perfect view and they were kind enough to let us paint on the roof of their six story building. I visited and painted many days on this view - it was very peaceful in the middle of this urban setting.

I started this with my Plein Air Painting Class. As the instructor, I would make the rounds visiting the students and I enjoyed seeing the various views and styles of paintings as they progressed. I painted this classic Plaza scene across the street with the Seville Fountain and the Spanish architecture.

I like how this painting composition works with the Kansas City Skyline behind the The Scout and everything surrounded by greenery. The Scout statue was created by Cyrus E. Dalin in 1910 and dedicated in Penn Valley Park in 1922.

I painted in the gardens with several artists as part of the annual Stems Plein Air Paint event. Its great getting out and visiting with other plein air artists. In this view, I loved the Poppies and the little white butterflies flitting through them. If you look closely, you may see a little white butterfly.

I love this little stretch of beach, Playa Chiquita. The boat is named Wave Dancer and the sea was rough as I started this painting. Not a day for fishing - so we both stayed on shore. Have you noticed - there seems to be a purple azure tinge to all of Costa Rica.

This is the most popular view on the island of St. John. I've taken many photos from this spot on various visits. But this is my first painting at the Trunk Bay overlook. My painter friend, Aphrodite and I, painted several mornings here. In the afternoon, I would go down to the beach and snorkel along their underwater trail.
